In a key milestone for European space exploration, Spain has joined the European Commission and several Member States, including France, Germany, and Italy, in signing the Joint Declaration supporting the deployment of the In-space operations and services (ISOS) pilot mission. Signed on 28 January 2025, this strategic initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing Europe’s capacity to operate in space and promises to revolutionise operations in this sector.
The ISOS pilot mission aims to demonstrate the functional capabilities of key services, such as maintenance, equipment life extension and the assembly of infrastructure for exploration. This innovative project will boost the creation of a new economy and strengthen infrastructure resilience, opening up extensive opportunities for Spanish companies and researchers in a constantly developing field.

Spain’s adhesion, along with the other countries involved, underscores its commitment to advancing Europe’s technological capabilities and promoting international cooperation. Looking ahead to the coming years, the ISOS mission will not only position the Spanish sector for remarkable growth, but will also mark a decisive step towards a more sustainable and efficient model in the management of resources beyond Earth, consolidating Spain as a key player on the global stage.
As the ISOS mission progresses, its impact will transcend technology, paving the way for a more interconnected and resilient future, where opportunities for development and progress multiply. This joint effort represents a major milestone in international cooperation, demonstrating Spain’s leadership at the forefront of global innovation.
