Its goal was to measure the seismic and thermodynamic variables of Martian soil for two years. Spanish companies took part of its construction.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e4bb335 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e4bb335\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe constant dust storms on the surface of Mars led to it accumulating on the solar panels that powered the probe until it was unable to continue its mission\u2014a process that begun before the mission was extended in early 2021. The seismometer was the last scientific instrument that remained powered.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6a2c1d6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6a2c1d6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" class=\"wp-image-651\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/proespacio.tedae.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/actualidad-mision-insight-2.jpg?w=788&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Teresa Riesgo\" \/><\/figure>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4ac7627 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4ac7627\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNASA\u2019s InSight mission suffered its first crisis related to a dust storm in January of 2022, experiencing a dip in the power generated by its solar panels when a continent-sized dust storm swirled across Mars\u2019 southern hemisphere.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1c44c84 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1c44c84\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe probe went into \u201csafe mode\u201d to preserve energy by limiting, among other functions, its communications with Earth. Several weeks later once the storm had passed, the panels managed to generate \u201calmost as much energy as before\u201d it.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6c8e906 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6c8e906\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWith the crisis overcome, NASA calculated that the mission could last at least until late summer of 2022. InSight had already met the mission objectives, but those in charge decided to extend it until December, when it ran out of power.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-addc8f0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"addc8f0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLastly, the probe sent its final message: \u201cMy power\u2019s really low, so this may be the last image I can send.
