Spain\u2019s voice on Space<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe existence of a Spanish<\/strong> Space Agency had been a long term goal of the space sector industry a fact that was made clear in the Sectoral Agenda of the Spanish Space Industry published in October of 2019.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe leading countries in our vicinity with which we\nfrequently collaborate in space programs and missions have their own national agencies, regardless of their membership in other international agencies such as the European Space Agency. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNow, the Spanish Space Agency will allow for a better\ncoordination between institutional organizations and\nindustries that operate in the space sector. It will\nestablish a national policy both for the public and private\nsector, and bestow Spain with a unified presence in the\ncomplex and competitive international arena to defend\nthe interests of Spain in matters related to space.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThere is now no doubt in anyone\u2019s minds that space\nprograms and their applications are fundamental\nassets in political environments and economic sectors;\nfor energy, climate, the environment, security and\ndefense, healthcare, agriculture and food policy, for\ntransportation, tourism, digital markets and mobile\ncommunications, for the regional policy and for local\ngovernance. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFor this reason, counting with a structure\nthat efficiently coordinates the various national\ndepartments with the responsibilities of the space\nsector is of extreme importance in a changing world.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

In a sector such as Space,\nthe Spanish Space Agency\nis, above all, an institutional\ninterlocutor of the first order\u201d<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn addition to this, more and more\noften the equipment, components\nand instruments used in the space\nsector, as well as space data and\nservices, are becoming dual use. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBecause of this, the dual affiliation of\nthe agency to the Ministry of Science\nand Innovation and the Ministry of\nDefense must guarantee the space\nsecurity and defense objectives\nestablished in our national strategies\nand directives. The agency must be\nthe tool that offers a priority response\nto the requirements established by our\nArmed Forces in matters of defense\nand that helps in their fulfillment. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhen it comes to industry, the\nagency will boost and streamline the\nSpanish space sector, fostering its\ndevelopment and competitiveness\nto encourage the participation of\ncompanies in new international\nprograms and missions. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWe therefore\nbelieve that having a National\nSpace Plan that complements our\ninvolvement with ESA can be the\nright tool to accomplish this. And,\nfurthermore, that the new structure\nas an agency will facilitate a muchneeded\ncoordination to optimize the\nefficiency and effectiveness of the\navailable financial resources.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIf there is anything that sets space\napart from many other sectors of the\neconomy, that is its global benefit to\nsociety. The activity and presence\nin space improves our lives on Earth,\nhelps us answer questions about the\norigin of the universe and the human\nbeing, and has changed the way in\nwhich we relate to each other as\npeople. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn spite of this, and of the\ncontinued efforts of our association,\nTEDAE, in this mission, we must still\npersevere in conveying to society and\nthe public opinion the immense value\nof participating in space for countries\nand for people. Being aware of this\nneed, the agency will have a Space\nand Society unit that will work toward\nthis end.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBecause the fact is that, in a sector as\nglobal as space, the Spanish Space\nAgency is, first and foremost, a toplevel\ninstitutional representative. This\nrole will enable Spain to increase\nthe footprint of the space sector\nin the world, and in particular, in\nIbero-America, of whom we must\nbe natural partners. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMoreover, the\nexistence of the Spanish Space\nAgency will foster the relationship\nwith other international agencies\nand the possibility of entering into\npartnership and bilateral agreements\nwith other countries as the sole\nrepresentative in matters of space,\nas well as access to forums where we\nhad never participated in the past.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

If there is one thing that\ndistinguishes Space from\nmany other sectors of\nthe economy, it is its\nbenefit to society\u201d<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn conclusion, now comes the time to\ngive continuity to, and consolidate, our\nSpace Agency as an instrument that\ngives prestige to our sector, which\ndevelops an industry that serves\ncitizens and projects Spain\u2019s image\nas a modern country committed\nwith the future.
