From april 16 to 29nine female Spanish scientists participated in Hypatia I, the first all-female, Spanish, intergenerational, multidisciplinary mission at the Mars Research Desert Station, located in the deserts of Utah, United States.

During this period they lived in isolation, feeding on dehydrated foods and with limited access to drinking water. Additionally, they wore astronaut gear with limited mobility when going outside. The purpose of this program is to raise awareness about women in space and foster an interest for science among girls and teenagers. This first edition has counted with a budget of 50,000 euros provided by the Generalitat Catalana, Fundació Barcelona-La Pedrera and Fundación Banc Sabadell.
The crew is composed of Mariona Badenas-Agustí, Carla Conejo González, Ariadna Farrés Basiana, Laia Ribas, Núria Jar, Neus Sabaté, Cesca Cufí-Prat, Anna Bach and Helena Arias (with the last two being back-up members).
